A future-proof implementation
An international retailer faced the challenge of individual payment and reporting structures for each of the 17 countries in which they were present. Their total costs for supporting development, maintenance, and Management Information Systems (MIS) were correspondingly high.With SEPA emerging and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements potentially absorbing valuable budget and resources the newsolution had to be a foundation for the future.

Our strategy was to simplify their infrastructure.We started with the introduction of a single interface to their software, reduced the number of Personal Identification Number (PIN) pad types from 8 to 3, and established cross-border acquiring with a mix of centralised and decentralised settlement.

Our customer’s total cost of ownership dropped substantially and the analysis of their MIS data enabled themto streamline their internal financial services. The new solution significantly reduced the cost of development andmaintenance, removed the burden of implementing PCI DSS, and reduced the number of acquirers from 14 to 5.

The new platform also enabled the merchant to generate additional revenues by offering Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC).
